EDINBURGH FESTIVAL TRIP
Aug 10th-17th 2002

YOU WERE CORDIALLY INVITED…
Out of all the trips that I wanted to organise over
recent years – this was the one that I wanted to do the most.
Go to the Edinburgh Festival for a week with a great bunch of
people and have fun - lots of it. And, due to a number of
fortuitous circumstances that time came. I managed to
secure some flats in a great position in Edinburgh for the
festival.

Here were the details anyway.
THE ITINERARY
You can do pretty much what you want all week -
you dictate the pace of this trip. The only event that I ask you
to attend will be a party night in one of the flats, which
everyone is invited to. The rest of the time is yours to discover
the best of the Festival which goes on all day and most of the
night. You will find that the Fringe Festival offers a huge range
of entertainment including the best comedy, drama and music you
can see anywhere. The pubs are open very late so you can actually
chill and get a drink after a show – which makes a change. Club
life is plentiful and diverse if you fancy some late-night
jigging, but I can’t do justice to all of the events going on in
a single paragraph.
Your best bet is to go to the official Fringe site
nearer the time at http://www.edfringe.com
- you can also book tickets there too. Edinburgh is, well frankly
- just a beautiful city – with an incredible history. If you’re
into it go on one of the many walks or ghost tours to discover it’s
darker side and underground areas. A mention has to go to the
International Festival (featuring the tattoo), the Book, Film and
Art festivals, which go on simultaneously. Shopping’s pretty
good, there are some fantastic restaurants and there’s plenty of
opportunity to indulge in a bit of minor celebrity spotting while
you’re out and about. In short. if you get bored in Edinburgh,
well then there’s no pleasing you. Everywhere is more or less in
walking distance or a short taxi-trip away. Even if you come up in
a car you shouldn’t really need it. So, go and see shows with
friends, go and mooch about on your own, but chill out and let a
great week unfold for you.
DETAILS
Arrive: Saturday August 10th
Leave: Saturday August 17th
Cost: £85 per room (this is based on the 2001 hire charge)
Travel: Make your own arrangements (if you are planning to
come by car please let me have the car details – their may be an
extra permit charge for the week’s parking though it won’t be
unreasonable). Air and Train tickets can currently be had for very
reasonable rates but book in advance. Budget around £70 for
travel costs.
Who’s going: About 40 of us – watch this page for a
final listing. Accomodation: All the flats have 5 single
rooms, however it is recommended that couples share the
single-room for the week (although this may sound uncomfortable
you’ll be fine - if you like you may want to bring a pump-up bed
and sleeping bag which you can layout next to the single bed
provided). Each room has plenty of wardrobe and storage space. If
you have any queries about this though, please ring me. The flats
are all self-catering with a good kitchen area, fridge and cooker,
etc. If you are on a tighter budget and want to save some money,
you can cook all week if you like. Each flat has a separate shower
room and bathroom with ample space. The showers are great!
That’s about it really – all, very nice and in
a great location in central Edinburgh. Spaces: Are limited – at
the moment I have about 30 rooms. So please get your deposit
cheque back or let me know asap if you want to come. There may be
a small possibility of getting more rooms as/if necessary.
ACTION
Please confirm your attendance with me via e-mail
or phone if you are definitely coming.
