Madhatters Story Database kerblitzed

News Image

As most of you who frequent this place know, the articles database is enabled so that you can add, edit or delete your own stories to appear on the Madhatters site. This includes putting up pictures.

Over the last few months unfortunately, a series of 'attacks' has deleted stories within the database. The last one from 'Devil Hack' actually deleted all the stories in the database over the last nine months or so. What beggars belief is that these people actually claim that they have 'hacked' the site, i.e. that is they have followed a link and pressed the 'Delete' button. If this is hacking, then I may possibly be a neuro-surgeon.

Whilst this self-proclaimed hacking in itself is not particularly clever, what's even less clever is that the last copy of the database I have is from last year. That means all the articles that were put up over this timescale have now gone. To remedy this in the future (as this has happened far too often recently) I will remove the delete button. In the meantime, there is little else we can do with these misguided 'hackers' or else we make the site password protected which is pointless.

Arse.

Please, please continue to use the database articles service though. It does work - people do see the articles and in most cases once their shelf life has gone they are not needed on the site anyway, although it is nice to keep a record (like with the Chat archives). I will get round issues like this sooner or later. I do have some newer changes in the pipeline for the site, but until then, your continued patronage is all Madhatters has ever asked for.
